Yet for nearly a hundred years, because of the fortunate influx of gold and inventions, this profit-seeking system, linked to the metallic monetary system, sufficed to sustain a very great expansion and enlargement of human life, and it was hard to convince the mass of men, and still harder to convince the prosperous manufacturers, traders, miners, cultivators and financiers who dominated public affairs, that this was not a permanent system and that the world already needed very essential modifications of its economic methods. A considerable measure of breakdown, a phase of display, fear and distress, was necessary before they could be disillusioned.

 

The nineteenth century had for its watchwords "individual enterprise and free competition".

 

But the natural end of all competition is the triumph of one competitor.

 

It was in America that the phenomena of Big Business first appeared and demonstrated the force of this truism;

 

 at a score of points triumphant organizations capable of crushing out new competitors and crippling and restraining new initiatives that threatened their predominance appeared.

 

 In Europe there was little governmental resistance to industrial alliances and concentrations in restraint of competition, and they speedily developed upon a scale that transcended political frontiers, but in the United States of America there was a genuine effort to prevent enterprises developing on a monopolistic scale. The conspicuous leader of this preventive effort was the first President Roosevelt (1858-1919) and its chief fruit the Sherman Anti-Trust Act (1890), which proved a rich mine for lawyers in the subsequent decades.

 

These great consolidations, which closed the phase of free competition, were so far effective in controlling trade and arresting new developments that Hilary Hooker, in his Studies in Business Coagulation During the First Period of General Prosperity, is able to cite rather more than two thousand instances, ranging from radium and new fruits and foodstuffs to gramophones, automobiles, reconstructed households, artificial moonlight for the roadways by the countryside, and comfortable and economical railway plant, in which ample supplies or beneficial improvements were successfully kept off the market in the interests of established profit-making systems.

 

After 1900  again there was a world-wide cessation of daily newspaper initiative and a consequent systole of free speech. Distribution, paper supply and news services had fallen into the hands of powerful groups able and willing to crush out any new types of periodical, or any inimical schools of public suggestion. They set about stereotyping the public mind.

These same profit-making systems in possession also played a large part in arresting competition from countries in which they were less completely in control, by subsidized political action for the maintenance of protective tariffs. Long before the world break-down became manifest, the experience of the ordinary consumer so far belied the sanguine theory that free competition was a mode of endless progress, that he was still living in a house, wearing clothes, using appliances, travelling about in conveyances, and being fed with phrases and ideas that by the standard of the known and worked-out inventions of the time should have been discarded on an average, Hooker computes, from a quarter to half a century before.

 

There was labour unemployed and abundant material available to remedy all this, but its utilization was held up by the rent-exacting and profit-earning systems already in possession.

This lag in modernization added greatly to the effects of increased productive efficiency in the disengagement of those vast masses of destitute unemployed and unemploying people which began to appear almost everywhere, like the morbid secretion of a diseased body, as the twentieth century passed on into its third decade.

em entrevista prolongada, a dislatar ....lá tá o dislatar do verbo ferre levar produzir.....com o prefixo dis....nã sey porquê mas o pessoal que carlos do carmo acusou de parasitas sociais ou seja os taes cultos gostam desta palavrinha...

Até denuncia os “delinquentes” do governo, esquecendo as suas delinquências denunciadas por um camarada de partido e co-fundador do PS, Rui Mateus, o qual é agora censurado e apagado à boa maneira estalinista, dos registos do partido.

 O livro, esgotada ou comprada a primeira e obviamente única logo só um maluco por alfarrábios utilizaria o termo, outra redundância, bastava edição
num ápice, falso ....demorou alguns meses a escoar o stock do Tito Lyon de Castro pois era carote 3 contos e picos....em 1996,

nunca mais foi reeditado apesar de vários blogues o terem disponibilizado em pdf e é história antiga como os 33 mil contos que o sá carneiro ficou devendo à bolsa e à vida ou os pareceres que soares deu ou disse que deu para justificar a dinheirama que declarou quando se candidatou a presidente.....

e obviamente  ninguém se rala com isso. tal como ninguém se rala que uma câmara com dívidas de 80 milhões compre um casarão por meio-milhão ao banco de Portugal e gaste centos de milhares para o transformar numa galeria municipal às moscas....

Censura era no “fassismo ou faxismo ou fachismo ou mêmo fascismo com fascio”. Agora é outra coisa.
Disso não fala Soares e ninguém parece interessado em perguntar-lhe, muito menos os media da Controlinvest que já foi do “amigo Joaquim” e agora é de outros por aquele se ter afogado em dívidas.

Numa das passagens da entrevista, só justificada pelo frentismo de esquerda e do sistema de privilégios que Soares tem perdido ( mas ainda faltam muitos…) que domina aquele jornalismo desportivo, um dos dislates mais arrepiantes, parece ser este:

Defende, como já tinha feito no passado, que Portugal, à semelhança da Argentina, não deve pagar a dívida à troika de credores internacionais, a quem acusa de estar a “roubar” o país, quando apenas o está a ajudar ao estilo de soares, cobrando honorários um poucochinho elevados pela "ajuda" pressionada pela “malandragem dos mercados e dos usurários que só no delapidado Banif ganharam 30% esta semana....cousas...”.

Portanto, “não pagamos” e já está.
O que aconteceu à Argentina por não pagar, muito pouco pois continua a vender a carne e o petróleo dos ossos dos argentinos...já Portugal só tem ossos e Brutus gordos e nem um Caesar ou Kaiser ou Czar ou kazar de jeito e isso não explica Soares.

 E foi este indivíduo presidente da República e acho que ainda pensa que é , isto lembra-me outro labrego....!
E por causa disso anda com seguranças da PSP permanentemente; carro do Estado às ordens, com motorista ao dispor e telefones pagos, para além de outras mordomias escandalosas que só não acabaram porque a condescendência dos portugueses está intimamente ligada à ignorância destes factos. Falasse nisto a TSF ou o DN pusesse estas coisas na primeira página e não demorava muito a reunir-se o consenso necessário para acabar com esta piolheira inenarrável de privilégios absolutamente injustificáveis. ....ora se o pessoal nem se importa que o mouro da Costa dê 40 ou 50 mil a fundo perdido a uma fundação que lança livros e fotografias de nórdicas culturais ia chatear-se com isso?
Então é que a Soares lhe dava a apoplexia mestra....uma frase muy mali constructa
Para conhecer bem Mário Soares é preciso ser mário soares e se calhar nem isso que os messias auto-iludem-se.... é sempre necessário lembrar o livro que Rui Mateus, um dos fundadores do PS e camarada de Soares durante os seus governos, para lhe servir de intérprete, escreveu ressabiado em 1996

Aqui fica o que o Expresso um jornal super-isento....tal como hoje.....de então, em 27 de Janeiro de 1996 publicou. Mário Soares devia ter vergonha disto mas é evidente que não tem.
Para além disso, o lugar que a História lhe reserva parece já assegurado: inimputável da República. Fez o que quis e ninguém o aborreceu. Responsável por chamar a Portugal o FMI, por duas vezes, nunca se desmanchou na sua ignorância das coisas de governo. Politiqueirice bastou-lhe para chegar onde chegou: à sede da pouca-vergonha.O resto, ou seja, a condescendência dos media em geral, pagou-a o povo português, em verbas do Orçamento gastas em barda com viagens, prebendas, distinções e malfeitorias com um tal Maxwell e outros.
O pobre Graça Moura, condenado a pagar três centenas de milhar de euros, ao pé deste figurão, é um gestor exemplar e austero.
A História ainda o não julgou, nem geralmente julga ninguém, pois tal como o nosso sistema de justiça anda muy devagarinho nos seus julgamentos...mas já não faltará muito. ler o Resto, com publicação de fontes, no blogue do Dom José ..primeiro? segundo?.
ora o tal de josé lá terá as suas razões para não gostar da mãe e pai da república laica e maçónica sabe-se lá se calhar é um freak com queda para as tortugas.... LÁ VAMOS CANSANDO E RUINDO....
